Sentence Ninja is a multi-player, multi-level app designed to improve sentence structure skills in children and adults. Designed by a certified speechlanguage pa-thologist, Sentence Ninja uses a fun ninja theme to engage students in their learning while teaching word order. Easily customizable to fit nearly every need, Sentence Ninja is a great addition to the therapy toolbox.
Created to facilitate an understanding of how correct word order impacts sentence structure, Sentence Ninja has 39 levels ranging from simple phrases to complex sentences. The sentence order and types

drawn from research are based in part on the work of R. Brown (1973), The Larsen-Freeman order of grammatical morphemes, The Scarborough Index of Productive Syntax (1990), and incorporates information from Developmental Sentence Scoring (Lee, 1974).
Each phrase or sentence has a corresponding picture. Sentence Ninja is designed to teach and reinforce the grammar rules of the English language for children, English language learners, and adults requiring rehabilitation. Vocabulary for early levels was based on sources such as the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory: Words and Sentences. Higher level vocabulary targets curriculum content and interest level.

How to Play
[one_half]sentence-ninja-img5[/one_half][one_half_last padding="0 0px 0 40px"]
When playing Sentence Ninja, the active player is depicted by a ninja figure walking across stepping stones.
Players waiting to take their turn are depicted on the left side of the page. With each turn, a new picture is displayed with the words of the phrase or sentence shown on various pieces of paper.
The player will drag the words, in order, to the sentence strip at the bottom of the page. If the sentence is not correct, the words will return to their position on the picture.
The optional “hint” button can provide scaffolding to a struggling student by providing the first word of the sentence or phrase.
When user is finished with the session, a simple tap on the “ done” button brings the user to the reports center.
Visual and Auditory Reinforcement
After selecting a correct answer, the player receives positive feedback with a chiming sound, and the correct answer answer being repeated for reinforcement.
Furthermore, when a student answers correctly upon their first attempt, their ninja progresses to the next stepping stone. These stepping stones help students visually track their success.
Additionally, 10 correct answers without any hints brings up a congratulatory screen that also gives the option continue practicing the same task or to progress to the next level.
Record Feature
[one_half padding="0 40px 0 0px"]sentence-ninja-img7
After putting a sentence correctly in order, a player has the opportunity to record the sentence and play it back. This gives students the opportunity to work on their expressive language skills.
Visual cues on each question to guide learning
!Students benefit from a variety of cues on Sentence Ninja to help them identify the correct answer. Visual cues are part of understanding conversation on a daily basis. The University of Alabama cites the following:
“Clear pictures multiply the students' level of understanding of the material presented, and they should be used to reinforce your message, clarify points, and create excitement.” University of Alabama School of Medicine, 2005
Smarty Ears has made sure that each question on all the levels of Sentence Ninja include high quality diverse images.

A high quality, value for money app. It will not disappoint and teaches kids all about how words affect sentence structure. We enjoyed playing with it and, most of all, our children enjoyed using it. We have awarded the app an EAS Certification of 5 Stars and EAS Recommended Status.

My students seemed to really like this app. Just thinking about the ninjas seemed to occupy and entertain them. I know if I said, “We are going to unscramble sentences today!” my students would look at me like I was crazy and would not be even a little excited. However, when I said, “We are going to play Sentence Ninja today!” I thought the squeals of joy would never end.
