Grounded in the principles of linguistically based treatment procedures (Saben & Ingham, 1991), MPA empowers students to not only produce sounds correctly but also to use sounds contrastively—reducing homophone errors caused by phonological processes. Phonological processes are common patterns that children use to simplify adult speech (for example, saying “wabbit” for “rabbit”).
